The Septile Circular: May 2021

Hi, how are you folks? It's been one long Plutonic biseptile/timelord/squares/etc jamboree around these parts for the last few months. What started as some difficult energy eventually morphed into "ok, we're just flat-out taking a break" with a lot of rumination on how to move forward, a lot of "how do I get from here to there?" and "what even is the right There, and when?" and most importantly "WHY?". You can have all the knowledge in the world, but without the wisdom and discernment which comes over a gradually unfolding path you're just wasting your time. It seems a yearlong transit at work.

But now, I'm going to dispense with the draft I'd been working on here, because it's the proper location for looking at the lunar eclipse we just had, and a good starting point for June's septile weather. So let's pull back, and go over the underworld shellacking we've had since mid-April...

Uranus-Pluto recap

With the final Uranus-Pluto biseptile still humming in the background after four transformative years, the exact hit on April 11th wasn't the actual be-all-end-all to the series. No, it took a week or two more of the personal planets transiting the first decan of Taurus to translate the alchemy of the greater biseptile to us in a more concrete fashion.

This all culminated in late April with the Full Moon in Scorpio opposite Uranus as dispositors Pluto stationed retrograde and Mars entered into mutual reception in Cancer. Then, it reached a denouement as the Sun completed its cycle to Uranus while making its own biseptile to Pluto a day prior. In the foreground, the personal planets seemed zapped by disruptive Uranus, though secretly they were just as chthonically-charged as the Moon herself. Pluto's inevitable rumblings called and lingered over the ensuing fortnight. Severing, inwards-turning and moves to follow one's own path ruled, with a flavor of lunar and Taurean self-nurturance.

Did the last few weeks of April feel as though they left more of a mark than the brief squall of quick transits might otherwise suggest? Did you find yourself abruptly pulling-back from social media because it wasn't doing you much good? What Plutonic fertilizer (or, ahem, "fertilizer") did that full moon shine a light on, all the better for our Taurean gardens' revolutionary growth? That the final Uranus-Pluto biseptile served as a greater backdrop, personal matters emerged, not just as transitory developments in the greater sweep of a year, but as symptomatic of the direction our personal and collective lives have turned.

And I can't help but wonder that, while the Uranus-Pluto squares from 2012-2015 raised headlines and much strife in the world, how many of us fell back on the same old ways, just with different veneers? It took a consciousness-raising 7th harmonic aspect for the outer planets to speak to us in their own language. The visions and sirens' calls dispensed by the harmonic, described as of the nature of Uranus and Neptune, gave us a glimpse of that new way, even though manifestation might take some time. Look to the Uranus-Pluto tredecile (108°) beginning later this year, coming in fits and starts with the ensuing trine through 2024, to enact that vision. As the 7th harmonic brings inspiration, so the 5th harmonic (tredeciles are quintiles-and-a-half) gives us the wherewithal to bring it to earth.

May, Itself

Thankfully, now the aspects to Uranus and Pluto have fallen out of sight and May's septile weather itself was especially tame — it was largely a matter of personal planet and goddess asteroid transits. So none of us have missed-out on much, except for the start of one aspect which I'll get to in a moment.

I'll leave the full set for your perusal in the tables below, though I will note we had a few clusters on the 4th and 5th, including a brief Sun-Mars-lunar nodes septile yod boomerang (divinely-impelled to seed the next cycle of personal growth, perhaps?). Lunar cascades also fell on the 2nd, with a long series over the 19th-21st and another rich day on the 24th. My general sense is that the more-standard transits (ingresses of Jupiter and the Sun, New Moon, and Saturn and Mercury stationing retrograde) have done enough on their own without bringing septiles into the picture (not that there was much on offer to begin with).

But one thing which did grab me was the lunar eclipse. Eclipses are primal astrology — the Moon, the Sun, and the Dragon. That's it. And, whether it was a pleasant or wonky experience for you, it was effective enough for the planetary septiles to go quiet until June 3rd (a small mercy). So let's go to the chart.

7th (purple) and 14th (pink/red oppositions) harmonics

With the May 26th eclipse itself at 5° Sagittarius/Gemini (as well as the upcoming solar eclipse on June 10th), we find ourselves in an unusually high-powered eclipse season. Both eclipse dispositors, Jupiter and Mercury, are in their home signs plus the lunar nodes are each in their signs of exaltation. The exalted nodes themselves are an every 17-18.6 year occurrence, but good luck lining that up with Jupiter every time. Mercury also rests on the degree of his station retrograde and his stationary stillness reverberates. Saturn, Uranus and mediating Chiron add some electricity by way of the nodes, if not to the Lights themselves.

In contrast to this, we find all-natural Vesta in Virgo supplying her own energy at the nodal bending, in septile pattern to Mars in his detriment and true Black Moon Lilith (in the Pleiades and the outskirts of fixed star Algol). The latter two remind me of what it's like to plunge a molten-hot firebrand into a bucket of water. Further, Vesta and BML harmonize thanks to aspect, their dispositors' conjunction, plus dispositors adding semi-septiles into the mix. While this is a pattern distinct from the eclipse itself, Mars in Moon-ruled Cancer is a direct recipient of the eclipse's energies, and to varying degrees the Moon, Pluto and Jupiter oppose each part of the pattern. And this highlights the most important septile aspect of the chart: the Moon-Pluto septile which perfected 22 minutes prior to the eclipse's astrological perfection and doubles down as a conjunction via antiscia.

It's a picture of our drives in defensive stance, our grounded integrity on one side combined with a prickly sense of victimization and perhaps even rage, played out in conversations about value. And that doesn't even factor-in Pluto: our buried treasure, that which we jealously guard, further applied diamond-making pressure while Luna not only ensured we keenly felt all this, but granted us a sense that the eclipse's darkness subsumed that feeling. That this energy plays out in terms of the 7th and 14th harmonics, while the oppositions do bring the energy down to earth, your sixth sense may bring awareness of these underlying currents writ large with the eclipse. As with all septiles, these are raw cosmic energies unmediated by intervening planets via their associations with Ptolemaic aspects: your senses may have been subject to some frying.

In the background to this moment, and throughout June, Jupiter refranates a septile to Eris (more on this in the June write-up). Also, while my initial understanding that the outer planet-to-outer planet septiles would have a complete partition between Uranus-Pluto and Uranus-Neptune aspects, that apparently isn't the best picture. Uranus-Neptune comes within orb beginning in mid-June, but, adding the lunar nodes into analysis, May 1st brought into orb a one-time-only waxing biseptile between the (true) South Node and Neptune, which perfects in two short blips mid-July just prior to the Uranus-Neptune septile, when the South Node will also triseptile Uranus. We're getting more of a lead-in period than anticipated to the five Uranus-Neptune septiles occurring between now and spring 2023. The septile and semi-septile aspects from the lunar nodes translate better the purely-outer Uranus and Neptune, and raise bright purple flags as we head into the first eclipse season of the year.

Though at this point in my journey I naturally trust the language of astrology, I'm inclined to pull back, not go overboard, and simply observe how these nodes-Uranus-Neptune aspects play out, just to start. Cultivating a sense of wonder with these aspects allows them to be received best and appreciated for their inherent divine nature (whatever personal categories you might sort that into) — why mess with a good thing? Uranus-Pluto has taught me the way these planets show up in our natal charts will carry through and advance the storyline. With these major septiles, think of this 5-exact-hit process as the End-of-Season episode, Act 5 or Stinger scene which turns matters on their heads and leaves us hanging for the follow-through at the start of next season (i.e. the next Ptolemaic aspect).

To be sure, there will be some historical details interspersed, both here and on Twitter (including some fun threads on Friday nights). Which reminds me: has anyone else received earworms for music from 2003 (the last recurrences of these eclipse cycles)? With Neptune aspecting South Node, it seems a natural pathway for musical vibes. To be continued... 🎵
